Fragrance sampling with scented labels: what beauty brands should specify

Scented labels and tags are a low-cost way to let shoppers smell a fragrance before they buy. What to specify so the label smells like the product.

Sampling sells fragrance, but vials and sachets are expensive and easy to waste. A scented label or tag puts the scent where the shopper already is: on the box, on the bottle, in a mailer.

Start from the real fragrance

The label should smell like the product, not like "a flower". Send the fragrance oil or a finished sample, and say which part of the scent matters most (the top notes people notice first, or the overall impression). We match the label scent to it and send samples for approval.

Decide where the shopper meets the scent

  • On the bottle: a scented hang tag next to the product information.
  • On the box: a round "try me" roll label on the side panel.
  • In the post or at events: custom scented labels on mailers, cards or gift packs.

Specify for your line

For rolls, give the core size, winding direction and roll diameter of your labelling machine. For tags, give the shape, the hole position and string colour. For mailers, tell us how the labels will be applied and packed.

Keep it honest

A scent label shows the character of a fragrance; it is not a replacement for the product itself. Clear wording such as "scratch to smell" sets the right expectation.

Want to try it on your product? Send us the fragrance and the packaging you use and we will propose a label or tag with samples.
